An Aunt’s Confession

When Matthew had his second surgery to repair his femur last year, it didn’t occur to me that some family made the choice to give bone from their loved one so that my son could receive it. Hearing “cadaver bone” didn’t register, honestly. When we sat with my sister, listening to the donor coordinator talk about Corey, it finally hit home. I’m ashamed that this realization didn’t happen sooner. BUT I’m so thankful that someone made that choice for my son and I’m so thankful that Shelley made that choice in the midst of this tragedy. Five people have a new lease on life and two others can now see….that is huge. What a wonderful way to honor Corey.
