I lub lu… lu lub me…
I was thinking about Corey today (like I do most days), and I had a particularly fun memory of him that I thought I’d share.
When Corey was young, he struggled with pronunciation. He thought his name was “Co-we Dan-o Picklepish”. So in an effort to help him learn how to say his name (poor kid, Laykovich is hard enough) I would practice with him.
“Say Corey”
“Co-we” he’d quip
“Say Daniel”
“Dan-o!” he’d smile
“Lay”
“Lay”
“ko”
“ko”
“vich”
“vich”
“Ok… now put it all together.”
“Co-we Dan-o Picklepish!!” he’d grin with pride.
He was also a huge “Barney” fan. He and Justin watched his videos over and over and over again.
One day, I was at Walmart with the boys. Corey was sitting in the front facing me as I pushed the cart. Justin (even back then he was larger than Corey) was sitting in the cart.
Corey began to sing (in his outdoor voice), “I lub lu!” (Justin became his back up singer “YOUUUUUUU”)
“Lu lub me!” (“MEEEEEEEEEE”)
“We a happy nan-o-nee” (“NEEEEEEEEE”)
“Wit a gweat big hug and a tootie tootie too” (“TOOOOOOOO”)
“Won’t lu say nu nahny nu?” (“NUUUUUUUUU”)
And for anyone that can’t decipher the song, it says: “I love you, you love me, we’re a happy family. With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you, won’t you say you love me too?”
I looked around us as the boys both held their arms out like Broadway performers. Everyone was staring. So I did what anyone would do:
“BRAVO!!! BRAVO!! THAT WAS AMAZING!!” Both boys bowed and grinned from ear to ear.
I gave them both a hug, a kiss, and an “I love you”.
