Becoming an adult
There is that one moment in every parent’s life when they stop being a child and embark on true adulthood.
Yeah, you believe you’re an adult… you may have paid bills, and fed yourself…
But you are not truly an adult until you hold a helpless baby in your arms and know you are the only thing keeping them alive. You are their only hope for survival.
That moment you become a parent.
In THAT moment, everything your parents EVER did for you makes sense! All the lectures, curfews, and crazy rules become perfectly understandable.
At last you look at your own mom and you can see the halo floating above her head… even if it is a tad bit tarnished, dented, and crooked.
But even with the tarnish and imperfections it’s OK… because in that moment you also realize that no one is going to give you a handbook before you leave the hospital. Because no one gave her one when she had you.
You look into your baby’s beautiful eyes, and stroke their innocent cheek.
And you promise them you will always ALWAYS be there when they need you.
That you will keep them safe.
And you do your best to keep that promise.
Then comes the day they become an “adult”. Not everything has clicked yet, because you’re still the crazy mom… the over protective mom that worries too much.
Then somehow your baby is murdered.
He lies in a grave next to your mom
The woman that raised you
Lies next to boy that made you grow up
How does this happen?
