Truth or Dare
When I was a girl, we used to play “Truth or Dare”. You remember this game. You chose to either tell the truth about something… no matter what the consequences… or you chose to take on a dare.
I remember being asked trivial things like “Do you like Johnny” or “Have you ever kissed a boy on the mouth”. Some of the questions (depending on the audience at the time) made you feel as though your whole world was going to crash down.
Then there were the dares. “I dare you to take off your shoes and run around the house twice in the snow!!” (It seems timely on a day like today, doesn’t it?)
I remember there were some truths and some dares we would say “Not for a million dollars!” Now I look back and think they were just petty things. A kiss. Telling a boy you liked him. Making a face at a teacher. Nothing that would make your world better or worse, really.
Now I live in a world where I’m playing a game of Truth or Dare that really means something.
I’ve been waiting for someone to reply for almost 19 months.
“Will you tell the truth? Will you dare?” I hear my voice echo in the night… no one has answered yet.
And like my former self, I keep upping the ante. “Will you tell the truth for $5,000?… For $7,000?…. For $8,500?” Do you dare?
How long will it take until you give in? Is it a monetary amount? Or will your conscience finally kick in? When will someone come forward to tell who killed my son?
Which do you choose? Truth or Dare?
