At This Table
At this table
He did his homework,
Decorated cookies for Christmas, and
Colored eggs at Easter.
At this table
He received lectures
Accolades, and
“Atta Boys”
At this table
He made my chair wobbly
By sitting on two legs
When he thought I didn’t know.
At this table
He made me laugh
With silly jokes, riddles, and
Stories from his life
At this table
There are scars on the wood
From pencils used too hard, and
Board games played too rough
At this table
Is where he’d always help me
Set up for guests, and
Complained about the clean up after
At this table
Holidays, Birthdays, evening meals
Good times, bad times, and
Times with no label
At this table
Where there were 5 chairs
There are only 4, and
I still wait for him
At this table.
