The Girl in the Tree

When Corey was in 6th or 7th grade, there was a neighbor girl (Anna) that had a HUGE crush on him. He really could care less about girls at the time, so he never seemed to notice her swooning every time she saw him.

One day, I came home and as I got out of my car, I heard, “um…. Shelley?…. psst…. Shelley!” I looked around and saw no-one. Thinking I might have been imagining this, I started walking to our door.

Then I heard the voice again… only louder this time. “Shelley! Look up here! I’m in the tree!!” I looked up and there high in my maple tree was Anna.

“Anna? How did you get up there?”

“Well, Corey said he didn’t think I could climb the tree, so I pushed the trash barrel over here, climbed on top and climbed the tree from there.”

I looked around and noticed the barrel was nowhere near the tree. “Where did the barrel go?”

Anna pointed to the barrel standing right where it belonged (by the garage door). “Once I got up here, Corey put the barrel over there and went inside.”

I felt sorry for her, because all she was doing was trying to show off for a boy. But when I went inside (after saving her of course) I laughed. I asked Corey why he did that, and all he did was shrug and give me that little smirk.
