Bio – Maya Banks

Maya Banks graduated from Park University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Psychology. She currently serves as a victim advocate with the Kansas City, Kansas Police, where she provides direct services and resources to crime survivors in Wyandotte County. Maya is part of a 24/7 on-call rotation, responding to scenes and offering advocacy support, crisis intervention, and criminal justice assistance to homicide survivors. With over 10 years of customer service experience, she frequently collaborates with law enforcement, government agencies, and community-based organizations to better serve victims.
Maya has been recognized for her work with several awards, including Mayor Tyrone Garner & Commissioner Thomas Burrough’s Exemplary Service Award for her service to domestic violence victims, and a KCKPD Recognition Coin for her advocacy and service to homicide survivors in Wyandotte County. She is dedicated to serving others with a trauma-informed approach.
In her free time, Maya enjoys spending time with family and friends and engaging in various self-care activities.
